Professor Huan-Nan Shi, born in 1948 in Hunan Province, China, is a distinguished scholar whose academic career has significantly advanced the field of mathematics. From 1980 until his retirement in December 2008, he served at the Teachers College of Beijing Union University in China. Throughout his career, Professor Shi has been a sought-after lecturer at numerous universities across China. He has held prominent roles, including membership in the Academic Committee of the Teachers College of Beijing Union University, editorial board member of the Journal of Beijing Union University (Natural Science Edition), and vice chairman of the second council of the Society for Mathematical Inequalities & Applications in China. Currently, he serves as a consultant to the third council of the same society, a commentator for the American Mathematical Review, and an editor for the International Journal of Mathematics and Physics.
Professor Shi’s scholarly contributions are extensive, with over 180 published papers and six Chinese monographs. In 2019, with support from the National Science and Technology Academic Publications Fund, his two-volume English monograph, Schur-Convex Functions and Inequalities, was published by Harbin Institute of Technology Press and Walter de Gruyter GmbH. In 2024, his Chinese prose collection, The Road to Life: Selected Essays of Shi Huan-Nan, was published by World Joint Publishing House Pte. Ltd. He has also led and contributed to five research projects funded by Beijing and Fujian Province.
His research interests span majorization theory, analytical inequalities, mathematical means and their applications, convex analysis, and probabilistic applications, leaving a lasting impact on these fields.
